Physical and emotional stress can cause hair loss. 

Alopecia Areata: This stress induced hair fall can affect hair anywhere on the body. It involves an autoimmune response where the body’s own white blood cells attack hair follicles. This may be in patches but can affect the whole scalp. 

Telogen effluvium: As a result of stress, the temporary thinning of hair over the scalp which occurs because of changes in the growth cycle. A larger portion of hair follicles enter the resting phase resulting in excessive shedding.

Trichotillomania: This is the irresistible urge to pull hair from the scalp, eyebrows or other parts of the body. It can be a way of dealing with a negative or uncomfortable feeling such as stress or tension.
