Finasteride has been used for over 3 decades and is a well-studied medication for hair loss with hundreds of scientific studies. The good news with finasteride is that the side effects are rare and it can be considered a safe treatment to take in the long term, that being said there are a few side effects which we must tell you just so you are aware.
Sexual side effects: in less than 3.8% of patients some side effects such as erectile dysfunction, reduced libido and difficulty having an orgasm were observed. Other even rarer side effects include psychological impacts such as depression, altered mood, dizziness, weakness, swelling of hands and feet, Rhinitis and skin rashes.
The good news is these reported side effects are extremely rare, in addition to this if one does experience side effects, these disappear once the patient stops using finasteride medication as it only has a half-life of 6 hours. Furthermore, the majority of studies were carried out on oral/ tablet finasteride. At Dense we offer the topical non pill version which is used in much lower doses and directly applied to the scalp providing all the benefits but significantly reducing the risk of side effects.
