“Finasteride For Hair Loss”

Finasteride is a medication which is commonly used to treat Hair loss. It works by lowering DHT in the scalp which in turn

  • Increases hair growth
  • Reverses androgenic alopecia hair loss
  • Stops further hair loss

Finasteride is classified as an anti-androgen medication and works by inhibiting the type II  5 alpha reductase which stops the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in follicles.

DHT is a hormone converted from testosterone which causes miniaturisation of hair follicles. Hair Miniaturisation may also be referred to as thinning or balding of hair. During this process hair cycles are shorter and hair follicles constrict as a result of these changes, hair strands that do develop from these miniaturised follicles are thinner and weaker. This is a gradual and continuous process which progressively gets worse until the hair strands are too weak and fragile to penetrate the scalp leading to complete baldness.

Finasteride is effective in reducing the amount of DHT in the scalp and has shown to be effective in 9/10 men. Finasteride slows or even reverses the miniaturisation process and thus allows hair follicles and cycles to normalise with the aim of a thicker fuller head of hair!

Golden nugget:  Finasteride blocks the formation of DHT. By blocking DHT we eliminate the androgens that can cause alopecia. Don’t like taking tablets? You are not alone!  We are one of the first hair authorities to develop an all in one topical Minoxidil + Finasteride solution which eliminates the need to take any tablets! Take out free consultation and see if this is the medication you need!
