“Dutasteride For Hair Loss”

Dutasteride is a powerful DHT Blocker. Studies have shown Finasteride blocks about 70% of DHT where as Dutasteride blocks more than 90%. Like Finasteride, Dutasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. However, in patients where Finasteride has been ineffective Dutasteride may be a great alternative.

Why would dutasteride work in patients where finasteride has been ineffective? The conversion of testosterone to DHT is catalysed by the 5α-Reductase enzyme. There are 2 derivatives of this enzyme which are respectively Type I and Type II. Finasteride only inhibits the Type II version of the 5α-Reductase, whereas Dutasteride blocks both Type I and Type II. Dutasteride is usually referred to as a dual inhibitor of 5α-Reductase.

DHT is the hormone which is thought to be responsible for causing hair loss. DHT can bind to hair follicles and causes them to shrink so hairs that grow on the scalp are thinner, weaker and have shorter growth cycles. If left untreated, the miniaturisation progressively gets worse and the hairs being produced by follicles are weak and friable which eventually fail to break through the surface of the scalp, leading to complete baldness.

As Dutasteride blocks both Type 1 and type 2 5α-Reductase, it effectively reduces DHT levels in the scalp by 90% or more. This allows follicles to grow and return to their usual anatomy thereby producing hairs which are thicker leading to a fuller head of hair.

We have spoken to hundreds of patients and discovered that men are worried about taking pills to treat hair loss. The primary concern to taking tablets/ capsules is the inherent risk of side effects such as depression in mood, libido and sex drive. Our formulation specialists have worked extremely hard to address these concerns by developing a topical formulation of dutasteride, which significantly reduces the risk of potential side effects compared with taking the pill counterpart.

Golden Nugget: If you have tried hair loss medication in the past and not achieved your hair goals you may need a stronger DHT blocker. Our 2 in 1 Minoxidil + Dutasteride spray on treatment may help you get there!  Take your online consultation to see if this may be the treatment you need to get your hair and confidence back.
